What is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health, and focuses particular attention on vertebral subluxation. A vertebral subluxation is a complex of functional, structural, and/or pathological changes to spinal joints that compromise nerve system integrity and general health. The Dr. of Chiropractic is the only health care provider uniquely trained to evaluate, diagnose, and adjust vertebral subluxations based on the best available rational and scientific evidence.
Chiropractic vs. traditional medicine treatment?
Finding the root cause, not just medicating or masking the symptoms. True health care is maintaining or restoring health rather than managing, disease care. Contrary to mainstream ideas, Chiropractic is focused on restoring normal nervous system function by corrective adjustments opening up the pathway through the spine. Adjustments not only remove interference on neural pathways to all of your organs, muscles, joints, and tissues, but also positively stimulate your nervous system. Wouldn't you rather correct the cause to allow true healing than get a quick fix with a medication?
What happens to untreated spinal misalignments?
Untreated spinal misalignments start to breakdown areas of the spinal joints, discs, and the nervous system. Examples include but not limited to arthritis, degenerative disc disease, and symptoms of numbness/tingling. Taking care of your spine is important at all ages. Just as you see a dentist throughout life for oral hygiene and prevention of cavities, spinal hygiene is a necessary part of health and wellbeing. Like most health concerns, the earlier you start to address the problem the faster it will be to correct and prevent further deterioration. Dr.Grandfield will be able to determine the degree of breakdown if it is present and will let you know if care will be beneficial for you.
What if I don't have neck pain or symptoms?
Pain and/or symptoms often show up later in an ongoing condition. For example, a stomach ulcer can take 3-5 years to become symptomatic with pain, heart disease can take 8-10 years before showing up on a stress EKG or blood test, cancer can take 10-15 years before becoming symptomating. Look for subtle symptoms such as looking over your shoulder is tighter on one side than the other, your head frequently feels heavy and tired, constant fatigue. Visual clues to look for are one shoulder or hip appears higher than the other or one leg is longer than the other.
Does an adjustment hurt?
NUCCA is the most gentle, precise technique of adjustment for the upper neck where many neurological issues stem from. Adjustments are made with you laying on your side with a gentle pressure over your ear. Dr.Grandfield measures precisely to set up for the adjustment. With specific and precise measurement, a forceful adjustment is not needed.
Is NUCCA helpful for athletes?
When your body is in alignment your nervous system is finely tuned which helps athletes react faster, experience better coordination, and execute fine movements with improved accuracy and precision. This all leads to better performance, increased strength, increased energy, better balance, fewer injuries, and quicker recovery.
